✅ Reality: Service dogs require daily work.
While a service dog can provide life-changing assistance, they also require daily care, training, and commitment.
Just like people, dogs need food, water, exercise, veterinary care, grooming, playtime, mental enrichment, and lots of love. They also require ongoing training to maintain the skills they've learned.
We recommend incorporating multiple short training sessions into your daily routine. Training doesn't have to be long—it just needs to be consistent.
A service dog can absolutely make life better, but they also become another member of your family, and with that comes responsibility.

✅ Reality: Service dogs don't read minds.
Service dogs are amazing... but despite popular belief, they can't read human minds.
They perform trained behaviors in response to clear communication from their handler.
One of the most important parts of becoming a successful service dog team is learning how to communicate with your dog. During training, we teach handlers how to give clear cues, understand canine body language, reinforce desired behaviors, and build a relationship based on trust and consistency.
The better the communication, the better the team.

✅ Reality: Service dogs are still dogs.
Service dogs have personalities.
They have favorite toys, favorite people, likes, dislikes, and occasionally have off days—just like we do.
When your dog first comes home, they're also adjusting to a completely new environment. Building trust, learning routines, and developing a strong bond takes time.
Most dogs settle into their new home over the course of several weeks to a few months. During that time, patience and consistency are incredibly important.
The good news? Dogs are always learning.
With daily practice, they continue becoming more confident, more responsive, and more in tune with their handler's needs.

Having downtime isn't just okay—it's important.
